Well, here it is April! Crazy to think that we have been in Franklin almost two months now. Easter just went by, and for the first time I had no family to go hang with - but lots of friends were around and we had a bbq with all the other transplants who have family across country! haha. It is funny to see how many young couples are like that here. They moved here, just like us, with no other family around.

Today I am putting our taxes in the mail. Man, I owe so much from my freelance business I am going to have to do monthly installments… but God is faithful and we will be ok. I just have to be disciplined to pay them diligently (nice “d” words there).

In other news, just last week a tornado touched down in Murfreesboro TN, about 40 minutes from our house. Some of my friends live there and saw it, but thankfully were not hurt or have any damage to where they live. Scary stuff those tornados! I’m not used to such extreme weather. You can see the damage that it caused a couple days before Easter here: http://tiny.cc/PRceS

Well, work has been very busy lately. I am thankful for the work - but mostly yesterday was spent “putting out fires” with things that had either gone wrong or were popping up that needed to be done asap. Days like that are frustrating…but you gotta do what you gotta do. I look back on five years ago and realize how much I’ve learned and that I continue to learn.

Well. Speaking of work - gotta get back to it!

This past weekend was a good one. Although started out a bit strange when the Tornado watch siren started blaring on Saturday afternoon. I didn’t even realize what it was until I asked Jason “What’s that siren for?”. Apparently it sounds when there is a storm brewin’ and there is a possibility for a tornado to touch down in our area. Hm. Welcome to TN.

Well, that “blew” over, and the watch was called off around 6:30pm. So… we decided to go to a concert on a whim. I looked up events on eventful.com and found that a band I recently started listening to CHAIRLIFT was playing down at the Exit In in Nashville. So, off we went in our Mini Cooper with $20 in hand for tickets.

The first opener, OBLIO - a Nashville based indie band - was pretty good. They are a three piece, and had some good songs. Could have been better/tighter, but they were the first ones on, and that is never easy to get into the groove very quickly. By the end of their set they were much better and their last song was really great. Overall, good band and nice guys.

The second opener, THE ACRYLICS - a NY based indie band - was just plain awful. Maybe they just are not good live? A wall of nonsense noise led by a girl and guy singer. I know this sounds harsh, but hey - you put yourself on a stage and I’m gonna look at you, especially if you are a girl lead singer. Perhaps you should call off the middle part and get some glasses that make you look a little less like the Saturday Night Live character Pat. But regardless, I could have forgiven such grievences, easily, had they been a good live band. But songs seemed to go nowhere, the vocals were pitchy, the guitar parts were mostly pointless and then every once in awhile they did something interesting… most of the time I sat there wondering “what’s happening?”.

Anyway, on to CHAIRLIFT - who was who I wanted to see. I first heard them on an Apple IPOD commercial. The first 3-4 songs were amazing - cool stage presence, great sound, good vibe…. the lead singer/girl was an incredible vocalist and keyboardist - she was really fascinating to watch. About half way through the set the guitarist and drummer kept feeling the need to talk into the mics… not a good idea. Basically, they ruined their cool by gabbing in the mic. I hope a producer or someone tells them so. But regardless, they were really great - the songs they chose to end with were strange to me (slow, didn’t really leave you on a high note), but that’s their call I suppose.

So, worth $10? hmmm… maybe $5. But it was really fun hanging out with Jason and just relaxing at a show. Better than paying that for a movie!

So, we’ve been in Franklin TN for a month tomorrow! WOW… time flies. I remember being so anxious to move here about a month and a half ago that I could barely concentrate. But now that we are here, life is settling into “normal”. Well, as normal as you can get when you’ve just moved across country away from friends and family. But, it’s all good.

The other night we went to this great restaurant, Saffire. The atmosphere was so cool - the place has a really great vibe. Low light, colors lights. The table we sat at was drenched in red light. It was really romantic. And the food…oh the food. What can I say, it was the best I’ve had in a long time.

As Jason gets busier with music I see less of him these days. But I am so excited about the opportunities that he has. He has spent many late nights working on recordings and rehearsing with his band. They are really good, and have so much potential. I have to learn how to share Jason though! It’s been just the two of us for so long. In Eugene we had almost every evening together, but now he has a lot more going on, a lot more friends (which is GREAT!), and a lot less time to just hang out. I am so happy for him though, he was really feeling so uninspired back in Eugene.

We will always be the very best of friends, but this is really a new season for us both. There are a lot of changes in the air. And we are learning (well, mostly me I think!) how to balance those changes and eachother and keep close through all of it.

Anyway, if you are passing through Franklin TN anytime soon, you MUST take a visit to Saffire Restaurant in The Factory. It’s really a great place for a romantic evening, or a very chill evening with friends. Cheers!

The mom has been hanging around a lot the last week, just sitting there - all chill. I figured there was something happening, but today, I noticed movement in the nest!!

I’m totally geeking out on these little birds. I think it’s so fascinating. I took a little video today. I think I’m going to take one every few days in the coming weeks, as baby birds grow super fast!
